ALL IS SILENCE – Robert L Slater

What if Death forgot you?

A bat virus brought the world to its knees. At 17, had it worse than most. Will she give up? She barely remembers her father, and needs to forget her mother's loser boyfriends.

Surviving an apocalypse could push anyone to the unthinkable.
Lizzie's shotgun is loaded. Then she meets Spike. A survivor with a dog collar. Uncommunicative. Hungry. She drops her food and runs.

She sees him again and leaves food, then finds Zach, a friend from school.
When Zach leaves to pick up another friend, she nearly runs over a schoolmate who invites himself over and drinks her crap beer.

Things go to Hell. A man dies. Did she mean to pull the trigger? His brother shows up, finds the body and embeds a hunting knife in her door. Lizzie opens it, he shoves his way in. Spike saves her, but her mother's keepsake box is crushed in the fight.

A name and a phone number peak out from the wrapping paper like a beacon.
Could a stranger she thought was dead still be alive?
She has to find out.

Get ALL IS SILENCE now and ride shotgun on this coming-of-age, post-apocaloptimistic road-trip adventure, because when you need it most, a little bit of hope could be all it takes.

Biography: For decades, I worked with students dealt challenging hands, who often felt that they didn't have a voice, and had trouble finding themselves in the world. Too often the young adult books are light and fun. And the protagonists are often white and male. Though this is changing, there are not enough strong female central characters who actually affect the world around themselves. I created this pandemic universe in a story over 22 years ago. When I came up with Lizzie, my tough, impulsive, heart of gold main character, everything clicked. I didn't want to write another zombie, nuclear war, global warming, alien invasion, natural disaster apocalypse novel. I wanted to create a realistic world, and that meant breaking Post-Apocalyptic tropes.
